Today’s society lives in an ever changing world. In order to keep up with this progressing culture, students must be able to use the best resources available to succeed. Technology provides an unbelievable asset and learning opportunity for students. Ignoring these important aspects of knowledge inside the classroom can only hinder student achievement. My classroom will use various forms of technology throughout the year to enhance students’ educational process. This technology will help students as they practice using primary sources and documentaries. By the end of the year, I expect that the incorporated technology will prove to be a great asset to students.
Benefits Technology in the classroom has been proven to better student’s education by various experts. Studies have shown that larger technology based schools tend to have higher test scores than schools without technology incorporation. This is due to the fact that technology has opened educational doors for students to advance their learning. Technology allows students to access information beyond the classroom. Benefits include engagement and motivation, along with an emphasis on creativity and interaction. The use of technology in the classroom also helps with real world training. Students learn how to use resources to explore information in a professional manner. This helps better students’ education as they receive preparation for their future. Ultimately, technology in the classroom is a major benefit for students and their success.
Implementation We will be using several different types of technology while studying history this year. Here are a few of the links to the programs we will be using. Feel free to learn more about them!
Google Earth Google Earth provides students with a personal opportunity to explore geography. This software allows users to view a 3D version of any terrain on the planet.
Avalon Project The Avalon Project is Yale Law School’s database for primary documents. The site carries documents that date back to the Medieval time period.
I reserve the right to hand out specific activities to students who have trouble using the technology in my classroom. These students will also work with me to improve their technological expertise.
